Workshop – Social Media & Digital Strategy for Athletes (Tecolotes Dos Laredos)
In 2020, I had the opportunity to design and lead a Social Media Workshop for Athletes with the Tecos organization, focused on helping players understand the importance of managing their personal brands and communication in the digital space. Baseball has changed — athletes are no longer only players, they are also marketable brands and ambassadors for powerful sponsors and their franchises.
The workshop combined knowledge, values, and practical experience to help athletes adapt to the fast-changing digital landscape. Over two days, I guided participants through key topics such as:
Managing fame and personal image.
Understanding “the brand I represent.”
Best practices for using social media.
The consequences of mismanagement.
Rules and responsibilities on social platforms.
Life off the field and how it reflects on your brand.
Choosing idols and role models.
Communication with the media.
Extended Workshop Focus for 2021 Season (Team Strategy)
As part of the Tecos’ digital plan for the 2021 season, we expanded the scope of our training into a team-wide social media and brand optimization program, covering:
Year-long personal training on social media for athletes and staff.
Defining objectives for the 2021 social media season.
Building a strategic vision for content to achieve high brand positioning.
Developing the most efficient, creative, and functional social media team in the LMB.
Providing social media support and play-by-play content management.
Planning digital strategies throughout the season.
Channeling marketing and sales actions through targeted digital strategies.
Monthly analytics reports to measure performance and optimize campaigns.
Improving fan/team communication to drive engagement.
Evaluating the digital market landscape.
Crisis management on digital platforms.
Conclusion
This workshop and strategic program helped athletes and staff not only understand their role as digital ambassadors, but also empowered the Tecos to elevate their brand presence, connect more authentically with fans, and position themselves as leaders in digital communication within the Mexican Baseball League.
